How to enable Image Optimization in LiteSpeed Cache

This guide assumes you've installed the LiteSpeed Cache plugin for WordPress.

One of the essential features in the LiteSpeed Cache WordPress plugin is the image optimization capabilities.

However, there are a few settings that make the optimization a bit more optimal, and we will explain them here.

First, go to the LiteSpeed Cache Settings, and click the "Show Advanced Options"-button:

This will bring up a few more tabs in the top, such as settings for additional Tuning, Media, CDN, ESI, and other Advanced settings. In this case, go to "[7] Media" (You can press 7 on your keyboard).

If you scroll down, you'll see an item called "Optimize Automatically", we have to perform a few changes here:

We recommend setting the setting as in the above screenshot.

Here's the reasoning behind:

Optimize Automatically → On: This will automatically send images for optimization whenever wp-cron gets triggered.

Optimization Cron → On: This will fetch the optimized images from the LiteSpeed's image servers.

Optimize Original Images → On: This will optimize the "original" image, that you uploaded (the full size one).

Remove Original Backups → On: Enabling this will remove backups of the non-optimized images, setting this to "Off" will result in more disk space being used.

Optimize WebP Versions → On: Whenever images are sent to optimization, the image optimization servers will also generate a WebP format which can be up to 90% smaller compared to the other formats.

Optimize Losslessly → On: When doing lossless optimization, it means removing data that doesn't cause visual changes to the image itself, so there will be no quality loss - if you can live with some loss in quality, you can set this to "Off".

Preserve EXIF data → Off: If you want to keep the copyright information, GPS location, comments etc you should set this to "On".

Image WebP Replacement → On: This will actually load WebP images on your website (for supported browsers).
